History of In-Between Court & Sportwear

Founded in 1994 by Jane Elizabeth Lazarz, In-Between Sportwear, Inc. located in Huntington Beach, California has become the benchmark for quality in the tennis activewear apparel market.  The company’s trademark design The Original CourtShorties™ was the first successfully marketed tennis ‘Shortie’ and has become the industry standard.

As President and the company designer, Jane lends an extensive 30 plus year background in the advertising design and marketing industries having worked in Boston, New York and Los Angeles.  Her concept of the tennis ‘Shortie, was a name she originated as a cross between a tennis panty and bike short. With a dash of Yankee ingenuity by adding 2 upside-down tennis ball pockets for easy access when serving,

The Original CourtShorties™ was created and a new trend in ladies tennis apparel began as seen on just about every tennis court today.

With the help and support of Jane’s sister Barbara Dudek and brother in law Fred Dudek (since retired from the company) and present business partner and Vice-President Mark Mathis, In-Between Sportwear made its debut at the (Southern) California Association of Sports Apparel ‘CASA’ trade show in September 1994.

FYI…the name of the company ‘In-Between’ came from an idea Jane had for booth positioning at their very first trade show.  Head and Tail Sportswear were two of the leading brands of tenniswear back in 1994, so Jane thought it would be advantageous for the exhibit booth to be located…‘in between’ these two brands, hence the name In-Between Sportwear.

From 1994 thru today, we continue to bring innovative styles designed with a smart balance of form, function and fashion.  In-Between is proudly manufactured in the USA with the majority of our line made from our signature fabric, Micro-Tec Supreme™.  This is a superb performance fabric, a blend of Meryl-nylon micro fiber & Lycra for ultimate comfort, easy care and durability.  We are known as the Mercedes of ladies tennis wear and have developed a very devoted following.  We hope you find this website helpful and informative.  Please call or email with any questions or comments. We look forward to hearing from you soon.

Sincerely yours,

Jane E. Lazarz, President and Designer
